Chardon Shooting Update — Chardon police have confirmed that one person died following a mental health crisis response at a residence in the Chardon Park Estates community on the evening of July 23, 2026.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 9:40 p.m. to the 400 block of Myra Drive after receiving reports that an individual was sending threatening text messages indicating suicidal intentions. When officers arrived at the residence, they reported hearing a single gunshot coming from inside the home.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, Chardon officers requested assistance from the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office and the Geauga County Drone Team. Authorities established a secure perimeter around the residence while officers attempted to make contact with the individual inside.
Law enforcement personnel maintained a significant presence in the area as they worked to resolve the situation safely. After securing the scene and entering the residence, officers located an individual who had died from what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The identity of the deceased has not been released as officials work to notify family members. Authorities have not provided additional details about the individual involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Chardon Police emphasized that the incident was isolated and that there is no continuing threat to residents or the surrounding community. Following the completion of the police response, officers cleared the scene and normal activity resumed in the neighborhood.
