Frank Thurman Lanier Obituary, COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. — Frank Thurman Lanier, 58, of Appling, Georgia, has died following injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash at a Columbia County intersection on Monday afternoon, July 27.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Lanier was involved in a collision at the intersection of Columbia Road and North Old Belair Road shortly before 5 p.m. Deputies and Columbia County Fire Rescue responded to the scene after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle.
Authorities said Lanier was riding a 2006 Big Dog motorcycle when a 2018 Honda Accord driven by 41-year-old Shalimar Shante Anderson of Evans attempted to turn and struck the motorcycle. The collision caused Lanier to be thrown from the motorcycle, resulting in life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses at the scene immediately assisted Lanier following the crash. According to investigators, bystanders performed CPR until Columbia County Fire Rescue personnel arrived and continued emergency lifesaving efforts.
Lanier was transported by Gold Cross EMS to Doctors Hospital in Augusta, where medical teams treated him for his injuries. Despite emergency efforts, he later died.
Following a preliminary investigation, authorities charged Anderson with failure to yield when turning left and homicide by vehicle in the second degree. Investigators stated that Anderson allegedly failed to yield to the approaching motorcycle while making a left turn, leading to the fatal collision.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not released additional details regarding the investigation at this time.
Lanier’s death has left a community mourning the loss of a 58-year-old Appling resident whose life ended following a tragic roadway collision.
