Kansas City, Kansas Accident Update — Authorities have identified the driver who was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Kansas City, Kansas, as Gregory West, 63, of Gardner, Kansas.
According to the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD), officers responded at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday to the 2500 block of W. 47th Street near Springfield Street following reports of a serious traffic collision. Emergency responders arrived to find a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a light pole.
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that West was travelling westbound on W. 47th Street when, for reasons that remain under investigation, his vehicle departed the roadway before colliding with the light pole. Authorities have not released further details regarding what may have caused the vehicle to leave the road.
West, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, suffered critical injuries in the crash. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency personnel at the scene, he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision.
On Monday, the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department officially identified the victim as Gregory West, 63, of Gardner, Kansas. Police also confirmed his date of birth as September 30, 1962.
The investigation remains active and is being led by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department Traffic Division. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed, a medical emergency, roadway conditions, or any other contributing factors may have played a role. Officials have emphasised that no cause has been confirmed.
