Darius Malik Bell Obituary, Anderson, South Carolina — The Anderson community is mourning the loss of Darius Malik Bell, who died following a shooting outside a Sunoco convenience store on West Whitner Street on Monday morning. Bell, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities responded to reports of gunfire at the business located at 1800 W. Whitner Street.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Sunoco gas station at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 27, after receiving reports of a shooting. When law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found Bell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside the convenience store. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Anderson County Office of the Coroner later identified the victim as Darius Malik Bell, 29, of Anderson. Officials said Bell died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death has been officially ruled a homicide. An autopsy has been scheduled as investigators continue to gather evidence related to the fatal shooting.

Following the investigation, detectives identified 21-year-old Qua’Thaddeus Thompson of Anderson as the suspected shooter. Thompson was taken into custody and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain crimes.

Authorities said Thompson was expected to make his initial court appearance before a judge on Tuesday morning. At the time the charges were announced, investigators had not released a booking photograph. Detectives also stated that the preliminary investigation indicates Bell and Thompson were acquainted before the shooting, although officials have not disclosed what led to the deadly confrontation. The motive remains under active investigation.

Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting or whether any witnesses observed the incident. The homicide investigation is being conducted jointly by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Anderson County Office of the Coroner as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events.
