Investigators said the pursuit came to a tragic end at approximately 2:16 a.m. in the 6900 block of South Cicero Avenue. According to officials, the pickup truck was travelling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control while crossing a bridge. The vehicle left the roadway, became airborne, and crashed into a stationary rail boxcar below.
The impact proved fatal for all four occupants. Three teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite emergency medical efforts, the fourth occupant later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Chicago Police identified the victims as 14-year-old Vanesa Morales, 17-year-old Yaritza Martinez-Villeda, 18-year-old Yurem Garcia-Pena, and 19-year-old Christopher Lopez-Montan.
