Jim Cook Obituary, Central, Illinois — The Central Community High School family is mourning the loss of Hall of Fame Coach Jim Cook, a respected leader whose remarkable career and lasting influence helped shape one of the most successful volleyball programs in Illinois history.
Coach Cook dedicated 21 years to building Central Community High School’s volleyball program into a premier force in the state. Under his leadership, the Lady Cougars achieved historic success, capturing three IHSA State Championships in 1996, 2005, and 2007.
Throughout his coaching career, Cook guided his teams to numerous accomplishments, including two IHSA State Runner-Up finishes in 2006 and 2010, as well as third-place state trophies in 1999, 2011, and 2013. His teams earned 711 victories, along with 15 Regional Championships, 10 Sectional Championships, 10 Super-Sectional Championships, and 12 Cahokia Conference Championships.
Beyond the championships and records, Coach Cook was remembered for the positive impact he had on generations of student-athletes. Former players and members of the Central community recognized him as a coach who emphasized hard work, teamwork, discipline, and competing with character.
Cook’s influence extended far beyond the volleyball court. His leadership, humility, and commitment to developing young women left a lasting mark on the Central Community High School family and the many athletes who played under his guidance.
